Food & Nutrition

The topic list for the term and lessons in order are described for each year group. Please click on the appropriate link for each group for the details  - see on the right.  

There are optional practical cooking lessons - If students cook at home an adult must be present for safety reasons.

Year 7 will be learning about food safety, how to use equipment safely and nutrition this term.  There will be step by step power points of practical lessons if students do wish to cook at home.  

Year 8 will be learning about nutrition, World foods and how different cultures use food in celebration and looking at sourcing food ethically. There will be opportunities for students to cook at home and step by step power points will be available. 

Year 9 will be learning about nutrition, diets and health as well as different factors which affect people’s choice of foods. There will be opportunities for students to cook at home and step by step power points will be available. 

Year 10 will be finishing of the work we started in September based on nutrition and health.  They will then move on to how food is processed and manufacturing.  Students have access to a wealth of recipes on the team’s files (ranging from easy to complex) and are welcome to cook as often as they choose.  

Year 11 were working on their NEA2 (controlled assessment) prior to lockdown.  Students have now received their individual NEA’s via e-mail and collection in person and have been directed to work on these at home.  Students will complete all work up to the practical assessment until more information is given about the practical assessment from JCQ.
