Another Successful KHS Drop Down Day

KHS held another successful Drop Down Day on Wednesday 4th May

On Wednesday 4th May, Kingstone High School held our Drop Down Day for this half-term. KS3 focused on the environment and KS4 focused on careers (Year 10) and study skills (Year 11).

KS3 started off with an assembly, where William Talbot-Ponsonby, Hereford Cathedral speaker for a Christian Environmental charity (A Rocha) spoke about the Christian practice of stewardship and looking after the environment. Students followed this up by taking part in a number of activities throughout the day, which included environmental surveys, the benefits of eco houses to help reduce energy consumption and waste, and creating their own environmental improvement proposals for our school site. Students worked together in groups to design their own proposals and came up with excellent ideas such as setting up an Eco Club for students, installing a pond in the ‘Quad', wildflower meadows and building bug houses.

KS4 activities were careers and exams focused with Year 10 looking at life in the world of work, occupation research and CV writing. In the afternoon, NCS (National Citizen Service) did an assembly for Year 10 students on how to build a CV. Students then had the opportunity to create their own CV, with NCS in classrooms to support. Year 11 focused on study skills, which included an Exam Buster session (a multisensory, active learning experience designed for students preparing to sit their GCSE’s/Nationals exams) from Positively Mad, one of the UK's leading education service providers.

Finally, all students took part in their latest set of Inter House challenges (see results below), with the boys competing in Handball and the girls taking part in Rugby. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to put into practice the learning and knowledge gained in previous lessons. All students did really well and there were some fabulous phases of played. The girls also had the support of the coaches from Worcester Warriors, who commented on the high level of ability and potential students showed throughout the day.
