Socotec Geology Engineer visits KHS

Leyla Ipek, Geology Engineer from Socotec delivers assembly to Y10 & 11 students

On Wednesday 2nd March, Year 10 and Year 11 Geography students had a talk by Leyla Ipek, an undergraduate Geology Engineer who also works for Socotec – the UK’s maket leading provider of geotechnical site investigations.

Her talk highlighted the fact that there is more to Geology than just looking at rocks and talked about some work and places she has already been as part of her job. This included Mexico, Hong Kong and working on HS2 in London.

Talking to the students afterwards, lots of students found the talk ‘interesting’ and ‘very good’. They described Leyla as being ‘upbeat’ and ‘energetic’ and several commented on the fact the talk had opened their eyes to possible new career avenues.
